Davidson Barn Conversion Location: Ballinderry, Lisburn. Design Style: Contemporary open plan living Client Brief The ground floor was to be a large & open family space with an abundance of natural light which flowed together from kitchen to living space and sunroom area. A luxurious master suite was also to be included on the ground floor. On the first floor plan, was to provide adequate space to accommodate three bedrooms, a family bathroom and the possibility of an upstairs lounge looking over the living area below. Overall, the barn should feel contemporary, bright and spacious, but also a comfortable, practical family home. Design intent In implementing the client brief, we have endeavoured to satisfy all the requirements as to room needs along with the open plan feel to the living accommodation. This has been achieved with use of double height spaces and vaulted ceilings coupled with large amounts of natural light. This is apparent as the main entrance hall is entered, with a double height space in the stairwell, a vaulted ceiling on first floor with 2 storey windows and roof windows to naturally light the landing and entrance hall areas. The entrance hall leads to the main living quarters of the house with kitchen and living combined into one space with the expansive kitchen featuring integrated pantry and adequate space to seat a large number of people as requested. The dining area and living area will be flooded with light from the full height window systems on the south & west faces, along with diffused light from the roof windows. Access to the outside from the living area and kitchen is gained from either east face or on the west façade, both by glazed doors. On the other side of the building is the separate lounge with integrated music / library area to allow an area set apart from the busy living zone. Access to the rear of the building is through an entrance draught lobby with service rooms off such as the boot/utility room, W.C. and storage before the kitchen and living areas. |
